So much for enforcing the rules!

In this case, changes to the historic fabric must stay true to the finishes such as profile, trim and the grid pattern of windows and doors, plus siding, brick veneer and railings.  Even if they weren’t the original finishes at the time the house was built.

But along the way, from 1926 to now, some of these finishes were changed from the original style.  Asbestos siding was installed in the 50s over clear heart redwood siding. Some windows were changed out to aluminum and vinyl.  And some of the original wood sash windows remained.

A lot can happen in 100 hundred years….
