Another architect I admire is German-born architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969). Mies, as he is commonly referred to, along with Frank Lloyd Wright, is regarded as a giant in modern architecture. And it is interesting to me how all forms of art, design and innovation move in tandem. Just like the Renaissance was a bursting forth of new design, new art and literature, so was the post-World War I era. For architects, Mies indeed burst forth. He used clean, modern material for his exteriors and interiors. Just before World War II he emigrated to the United States, settling in Chicago. The S.R. Crown Hall, the home of the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago is considered a masterpiece. Humbly I agree.
If you want to learn more about Herr van der Rohe this is a great Overview.
